Characterize the current digestate
Digestion changes particle structure, soluble organics, alkalinity and water binding. State whether the feed is anaerobically or aerobically digested, its residence history, dry solids and recent process instability.
A product approved on undigested sludge should not be assumed to transfer. Preserve a representative sample and note dilution, storage and temperature because aged laboratory material can behave differently.
Use a controlled candidate matrix
Screen a bounded range of cationic charge and molecular profiles at equal active dose. Include the incumbent as a coded reference and randomize the order when practical.
Reject candidates that require an unrealistically gentle mix or produce a fragile floc. A viable grade must tolerate the actual feed pump, injection point and separator.
Read liquid and cake together
Clear centrate or filtrate does not prove the best dewatering result. Record capture alongside cake solids, torque or pressure, throughput and cake release.
A small cake-solids improvement may reduce transport and disposal mass, while poor capture sends solids back to the liquid train. Evaluate the whole operating balance.
Control preparation variables
Prepare every candidate with recorded water quality, concentration, wetting, aging and final dilution. Do not compare one fully aged solution with another that still contains undissolved polymer.
Calibrate the feed pump with the prepared solution, not water alone. Viscosity and backpressure can change delivered flow.
Confirm across feed variability
Repeat the preferred candidates on more than one digestate condition. Include a normal feed and a credible difficult window such as higher solids or a changed digester condition.
Define acceptance ranges for capture, cake solids, throughput and active dose. One favorable run is a screening result, not a supply approval.
Connect approval to supply
Link the chosen sample code to the quotation, product code and production documents. State the active content basis used in technical and commercial comparison.
Ask how lot identity and material changes are controlled. Retain a receiving reference so future process drift can be separated from preparation or feed changes.
